Wanala Weaving is about keeping culture strong, creating connection and bringing people together.

For me, weaving has never just been about making something. Some of the most important parts happen while we are sitting together, yarning, listening, laughing, sharing knowledge and learning from each other.

There is something really important about sitting still and deeply listening. We are so often busy or rushing from one thing to the next. Weaving gives us a reason to slow down, sit together and be present.

When our hands are busy weaving, conversations happen naturally. There is space to listen properly, not just waiting for our turn to speak, but really hearing each other, our stories and the knowledge being shared.

That is what I want people to experience through Wanala.

Keeping culture alive

I am passionate about keeping culture alive and making sure cultural knowledge continues to be practised and passed on.

My own journey continues to grow through weaving, community, my work in education and learning Yorta Yorta language.

Language has become an important part of that journey for me. It has strengthened my connection to culture and reminded me how important it is that our language, stories and knowledge continue for the generations that come after us.

Weave, yarn and connect

When I run a workshop, I want it to feel like more than an activity.

I want people to feel comfortable sitting together, having a yarn and connecting while they learn to weave. You don't need to be creative or have woven before, and it isn't about making something perfect.

For me, the finished piece is only one part of it.

It's also about slowing down, sitting still, deeply listening and making space for connection.

Whether I am working with community, schools, organisations or workplaces, I hope people walk away having learnt something, made a connection and experienced culture in a meaningful way.

That is the purpose behind Wanala Weaving , to weave, yarn and connect, while helping keep culture strong for generations to come.
