Weaving Workshops
Weave. Yarn. Connect.
Wanala Weaving workshops are about more than learning how to weave.
They are an opportunity to slow down, sit together, deeply listen, yarn and connect while learning a cultural practice that has been shared across generations.
I create relaxed and welcoming spaces where people can learn with their hands, have conversations and experience culture in a meaningful way.
No previous weaving experience is needed. I guide everyone through the process step by step, and all materials are provided.
Bracelet Weaving
A simple introduction to weaving and connection.
In this workshop, participants learn weaving techniques to create their own woven bracelet to take home.
Bracelet weaving works really well for larger groups, schools, workplaces, community events and shorter sessions. It gives people the opportunity to learn, create and yarn together without needing previous weaving experience.
Workshop length: approximately 45–60 minutes
Materials: all provided
Experience: no previous weaving experience needed
Suitable for: schools, workplaces, community groups, events and team gatherings
Earring Weaving
Create your own pair of woven earrings.
This longer workshop gives participants more time to settle in, learn weaving techniques and create a pair of earrings to take home.
There is plenty of time for yarning and connection throughout the session, making it a lovely option for smaller groups wanting a more hands-on experience.
Workshop length: approximately 1.5 hours
Materials: weaving materials, wooden rings and earring hooks provided
Experience: no previous weaving experience needed
Basket Weaving
Slow down, sit together and learn the foundations of basket weaving.
Basket weaving gives us more time together.
Participants are guided through the beginning stages of creating their own small basket or trinket basket while learning techniques they can continue practising after the workshop.
Depending on the individual and the length of the session, baskets may not always be completed during the workshop. Participants take their materials home so they can continue weaving in their own time.
Workshop length: approximately 1.5–2 hours
Materials: all provided
Experience: no previous weaving experience needed
